confidence

When designing this blog I flip flopped on many things.  But one thing remained steadfast. I had this unwavering want to create an inclusive and relatable space for woman to hang out for a few minutes and just be- wherever and however.

Naturally, I have been spending more time on Instagram and online these days.  Truth be told, there’s been times I would close my phone feel a little put off. What I was seeing felt shallow, filled with half- truths. The kicker, the worst offenders were my two sweethearts - beauty and fashion.   Although my sweethearts may misbehave from time to time, they seem to straighten up when an Ashley Graham or Michelle Obama type would enter.  Our girls need more Ashley’s and Michelle’s to admire.

As a mother to two daughters, I am more determined than ever to raise poised, articulate, killer confident women.  I am a believer with confidence comes freedom and heart -freedom from judgment and comparison, freedom from a perpetuating stamp of approval and so much heart the world can only be viewed  through a lens of compassion and potential.   This is what I want for my daughters. This is what I want for each and every woman I know. If you are reading this and are thinking I want this-I want this for you too.

So how do we get to freedom and heart? I think step one is taking the winning qualities you’ve been blessed with and exploiting the crap out of them.  Today, for my girls, one is an athlete and the other a comedian. So for now, I keep one running, kicking and jumping and let the other one keep me in stitches with the belief this will somehow lay the groundwork in hard wiring some freedom and heart.

So which of your merits are your exploiting these days?  Me? I started writing again and I’ve been reminded how great I feel when I do.  The creative process that goes into building this blog has me  feeling like I'm doing cartwheels in the park when everyone else is riding a bike. Nonetheless, I feel a little more free and a little more heart- and that is what's paramount.

The other night my sweet friend asked me if I had drawn a mole on my face as she ogled a picture on my Instagram. I responded back and smiled “no, that was just a pimple I refused to retouch”

Thanks for popping in!

Until next time.
